Jesus is calling us as His followers to become Fisher’s of Men.

Matthew 4:18-20 says, And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

We see Simon Peter and Andrew as they receive their call from Jesus Christ- “ Follow Me, and I will make you fisher’s of men.” As followers of Jesus Christ, we are ALL called to follow Him and GO make disciples. This is a call to action, Go is an action word. Jesus says to each one of us, follow me and I will make you fishers of men. You may be intimidated about sharing your faith in Jesus Christ with others, but be comforted and see what this scripture is telling us. The Holy Spirit will be our fishing guide. He will teach us how to fish, He will teach us what bait to use and He will teach us where to fish.

Follow Me,  I will Make,  Fisher’s of Men

Fishing is lots of fun….if you like it! First of all you must have a desire to fish. Next we need the equipment. Then we must “Go” where the fish are. And we must use all of the skill we have.

Fishing stories…… any person that has fished much surely has a good fishing story to tell. We are not going to delight in telling of the big ones that got away when it comes to men’s souls. Another good thing about fishing for souls is that we don’t have to worry about catch and release.  Also, when we are fishing for the souls of men, there isn’t a limit!

Let us look at the best bait to catch souls of men:

1- A Radiant Life- we must have a good witness! Jesus Christ must be seen through and in us.

2- The Blessing of the Holy Spirit on your life.

Our bait is not artificial but is the Living Word, praise God! The Living Word gives us a Living Hope of eternal life through the Blood of Jesus Christ!

Let’s all join together and make a commitment to Follow Jesus and let Him make us fisher’s of men. A quote from my grandmother Ruth Ashley , “The thought of His coming should hasten our going.”

Application: Read Romans 10:1-13 and note where Paul had a desire to see people saved. He had a Passion for the Lost, he identifies the Problem and Paul talks about God’s Promise in verse 13 of Romans.

Grace and peace be with you,
